Nigerian military will liberate Sambisa forest before Buhari takes power - NSA

The Nigerian military will reclaim the expansive Sambisa forest reserve which has become a notorious Boko Haram stronghold, before President Goodluck Jonathan hands over power in less than two months, National Security Adviser Sambo Dasuki said Tuesday.

Mr. Jonathan will on May 29 surrender power after losing the March 28 presidential election to Muhammadu Buhari.

After widespread criticisms over its inability to contain Boko Haram, the Nigerian military in the last few months has retaken several territories occupied by the group, dislodging the militants from key towns like Baga, Bama and Gwoza.

The apex court, on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, upheld Fayose’s victory in the June 2014 governorship elections. The court also dismissed the petition brought against the governor by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Fayose defeated APC candidate and then governor, Kayode Fayemi at the polls.

Ops! Sleeping Baggage Handler Force Plane To Make Emergency Landing

After less than 10 minutes in the air, an Alaska Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing on Monday when a napping baggage handler woke up in the plane's cargo hold and began banging and screaming.

In an official statement, the airline confirmed that the L.A.-bound flight returned to Seattle when the pilot "reported hearing banging from beneath the aircraft" immediately after takeoff. According to KIRO-TV reporter Alison Grande, passengers also heard screaming.

Breaking News! Somali ministry building under attack

Somalia's Higher Education Ministry in the centre of the capital Mogadishu has been hit by a large explosion followed by heavy gunfire, police have said.

Police said at least one person was killed in Tuesday's attack by suspected al-Shabab fighters.

Sources told Al Jazeera that gunmen were holed up inside the building

Major Ali Nur, a police officer, told Reuters news agency that he had seen one dead civilian and five injured, but said it was too early to know full casualty figures.

There was no immediate comment from al-Shabab, which frequently stages attacks in the country.

Chibok Girls alive ... They where last sighted about 3 weeks ago

More than 50 of the girls abducted by terrorist group Boko Haram in Chibok, Borno State, a year ago, were seen alive three weeks ago, a woman has told the BBC.

According to the woman whose name was not published by the British online news platform, the girls were seen in Gwoza before the Boko Haram militants were dislodged by the Nigerian military, backed by forces from neighbouring countries. The Islamist sect was believed to have made Gwoza its headquarters after it captured the town in August 2014.

The woman, who lived under Boko Haram’s rule in Gwoza, told the BBC that she saw the girls in Islamic attire, being escorted by the militants.
