10 governoship candidates in Lagos step down for APC Ambode

Just few days to the Governorship Election in Nigeria Vanguard reports that about 10 Lagos governorship candidates have stepped down to declare support for Akinwunmi Ambode, who is running under APC in the forthcoming April 11th governorship election in the state.

The 10 governorship aspirants released a statement today saying they have shelved their individual ambitions to be the governor of Lagos State to support the candidature of Ambode. They said;

'I will be leaving office in June" - Prof. Jega

Current INEC Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega who came into office in 2010 after the tenure of predecessor, Prof Maurice Iwu, expired said he will be leaving office in June this year when his tenure as Chairman of the electoral body ends. In an interview with BBC Hausa, Professor Jega said even if he is asked to continue in office, he would not.

"I am grateful to God. I was asked to come and contribute my own quota to the national development and I have done my bit to the best of my ability. Whatever assignment one will do for five years, just like this difficult one to me, if one is able to successfully accomplish the task, someone else should be given the opportunity. World's Oldest Person Misao Okawa dies aged 117

Misao Okawa, the world's oldest person, died on Wednesday at the age of 117. Members of her family told the Associated Press that Okawa died of heart failure and stopped breathing at her nursing home in Osaka, Japan.

Somalia's al Shabaab Islamist group claimed responsibility for an attack on a Kenyan university campus in which over a dozen people were killed on Thursday, saying it had released Muslims while killing some Christians and taking others hostage.

"We sorted people out and released the Muslims," Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab, al Shabaab's military operations spokesman, told Reuters.

"There are many dead bodies of Christians inside the building. We are also holding many Christians alive.

Fighting still goes on inside the college."
