[UPDATED] Policemen and Robbers Engage in Gun Battle on Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge


There has been an heating report from Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge that a team of policemen and a gang of armed robbers exchanged gunshots for about 30 minutes on the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge on Thursday afternoon, according The PUNCH.

An eyewitness, who called our correspondent on the telephone, said the robbers robbed a bank at Lekki phase 1 and attempted to escape through the link bridge to Ikoyi when they encountered policemen.

It was learnt that motorists abandoned their vehicles on the bridge and fled while the shooting lasted.

The eyewitness, who identified himself as Tayo, said, “Around 4.45pm, I was driving to my office in Ikoyi from Lekki but when I got a spot on the bridge, I heard sporadic gunshots. Fortunately, policemen at the tail end of the bridge inwards Ikoyi, shot back.

Vice President Namadi Sambo Explain Why They don’t want voter card readers


The Nigerian presidency has expressed concern with the use of voter card readers for the forthcoming elections, questioning its legality and efficiency, and defending an earlier position of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP on the matter.

Vice President Namadi Sambo said Thursday that while his party was not against the use of card readers, which the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says will help curb vote fraud, it was concerned whether the decision is backed by law and about the possibility of many Nigerians being disenfranchised.

The PDP has strongly criticised the use of card reading machines for the polls, while the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, backs INEC’s plan to deploy them for what is billed to be a close poll.

The Nigerian Army has yet again achieve another huge success in the fight against Boko Haram Terrorist Group as report has it that military troops chase terrorist group out of the Lame/Bura forest in Bauchi State, military sources say.

The troops also inflected huge casualties in the terrorist camp and recover weapons from them during the operation.

This was disclosed in a statement released by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Sani Usman on Wednesday, March 11.

When something like this happens in Nigeria we call it "Gobe", Lol. So a 15-year-old boy was arrested on Wednesday in the short-lived kidnapping of a 22-month-old toddler that was caught on surveillance video in this small farming town in eastern Washington.

The teenage boy, who lives in Sprague, was identified through the use of surveillance video, interviews and evidence collection, Lincoln County Sheriff Wade Magers said.

The boy's identity was being withheld because he is a juvenile, Magers said.

"Over the past 72 hours, deputies and detectives have worked relentlessly on this case," Magers said in a news release.

Manuel Vasquez, 46, was killed by lethal injection for beating and strangling 51-year-old Juanita Ybarra in San Antonio in 1998.

His sister and a friend cried as they watched his death through a window at the prison in Huntsville.

Ybarra's sister also witnessed the execution and Vasquez was pronounced dead at 6:32pm CDT, 17 minutes after he was injected.

WHO says there have been No new Ebola cases in Liberia for more than two weeks #WinningTheFight


No new case of the deadly Ebola virus has been registered in Liberia since February 19, the World Health Organization said Wednesday, also hailing positive signs in Sierra Leone and Guinea.

Liberia, long the hardest-hit country in the Ebola epidemic that has killed nearly 10,000 people in west Africa, "has now gone well over two weeks without a new reported case," said Bruce Aylward, who heads WHO's Ebola response.

Since the outbreak began in December, 2013, 24,282 people in nine countries have been infected with the virus, and 9,976 of them have died, according to the latest figures.

36 towns now retaken from Boko Haram - National Security Spokesman


Security spokesman on Wednesday said that 36 towns had been retaken from Boko Haram since the start of a four-nation military offensive, voicing hope that the operation could lead to the group's "total defeat".

National security spokesman Mike Omeri said four towns had fallen since last Friday, including three in Borno state and Buni Yadi, in neighbouring Yobe, where the insurgents slaughtered more than 40 students in February last year before seizing it in August.

Crucial "co-operations and alliances" have led to victories over the Islamist rebels, he said, thanking neighbouring Cameroon, Chad and Niger for cutting off "the supply lines of the terrorists".

"It is hoped that the unfolding regional cooperation will hasten the total defeat and extermination of Boko Haram in Nigeria and the sub-region," he added.

45 High Ranking PDP Members Suspended For Allegedly Working For Labaran Maku


The Nasarawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has suspended indefinitely, 45 members of the party, including elders and founding members, with threats to expel them for allegedly working for the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the state, Mr. Labaran Maku.

The suspension order was conveyed in a letter dated March 5 and signed by the party’s Vice Chairman for Nasarawa-North Zone, Umaru Gwamna Abdullahi.

One of the 45 suspended officers, Kassim Isa, who is the Assistant Director of Publicity for the PDP campaign team, was suspended for allegedly working for his son, who is a candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Akwanga-South as against the PDP candidate, Sunday Chuga.

Eleven Feared Dead in Military Helicopter Crash Off Florida Panhandle


According to gawker report, Seven marines and four soldiers from Eglin Air Force Base are feared dead after a helicopter taking part in a training exercise crashed over the water Tuesday night off the Florida Panhandle.

Robbers steal jewels worth millions in France heist


More than a dozen armed men stole millions of dollars worth of jewels from two high-security trucks on a motorway south of Paris overnight, a French police official said on Wednesday.

The robbers held up the trucks at a toll payment station in the Yonne area and drove off in four cars.

Local media said the jewels were worth $9.5m and that the gang used gas to force security transport personnel out of their vehicles.

Nobody was injured in the attack and the trucks had been found burnt out, the police official said.

About 80 Children Yet to Unite with Family Members after been freed from BH Camp cause they can't remember their Identity


Report says there are about 80 children who  are yet to be united with their family due to the fact they cannot remember their names or where they are from after been freed from Boko haram camp in Northern Cameroon by Cameroonian soldiers in November 2014.

A director at US-based National Democratic Institute, Christopher Fomunyoh, gives account and said the children range from 5-18 years of age and do not speak English, French or any local language.

Prof Wole Soyinka condenms Use Of Vulgar Words In Campaigns, Indicts Presidency


Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka has condemned the crudity of words used by politicians in the ongoing electioneering campaign, describing it as an “uncultured art of political persuasion,” which he said the presidency is guilty of.

Speaking, yesterday, in Lagos at the public presentation of a book titled “Modern and Tradition Elite in the Politics of Lagos” written by Ambassador Patrick Dele Cole, Soyinka also dismissed former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s book, “My Watch”, as “three tonnes of doctored and self-serving narratives”.

Family & friends of arrested Pastor in North Korea gather to pray for his freedom


Korean-Canadian religious leaders, friends and family gathered at a suburban Toronto church on Monday, March 9, to pray for a Canadian pastor who is being detained by North Korean authorities while on a humanitarian mission.

60-yr-old Hyeon Soo Lim the founder of Light Korean Presbyterian Church was last heard from on Jan. 31 after he traveled to North Korea.

Church leaders say the Canadian government has told them it is working to secure his release, Reuters reports.

Canada has had limited influence in North Korea since it suspended diplomatic ties with Pyongyang in 2010.
