Appeal Court Declares President GEJ Eligible to Seek Reelection

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has declared President Goodluck Jonathan eligible to seek reelection in the forthcoming presidential poll.

It held that as much as the President had only taken the oath of office as elected President only once in 2011, he was qualified to stand for election into the office another time.

The lead judgment delivered by Justice Datijo Yahaya was unanimously consented to by four other members of the appeal panel.

Justices Akomolafe Wilson, T Y Hassan, Ekanem Joseph and M Mustapha, were the other members of the panel.

SERAP drags Minister of Finance, Ngonzi Okonjo-Iweala to Court Over ‘missing N30tn’

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project on Tuesday asked a Federal High Court in Lagos to compel the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, to offer explanation on the N30tn, which allegedly went missing under her watch.

The suit marked FHC/L/CS/196/2015 came after the minister allegedly failed to oblige the organisation’s request to furnish it with information as regards the allegedly missing money pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act.

Okonjo-Iweala had come under the spotlight following an allegation by a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Chukwuma Soludo, that not less than N30tn had either been missing, or stolen, or unaccounted for, or simply mismanaged under her watch as the Minister of Finance.

According to report obtain from Bang Showbiz, A new coinage portrait of Britain's Queen Elizabeth has been unveiled. The updated image of the 88-year-old monarch - only the fifth new monetary picture in her 63-year reign - shows her in side profile wearing a crown and drop earrings and will appear in circulation later this year.

Engraver Jody Clark designed the image, which was selected in a competition organised by the Royal Mint Advisory Committee, a consultative panel to HM Treasury.

He said: ''Winning the competition has been an overwhelming experience - I hope she likes it.

I wanted to make her look less stern to give her a slightly warmer expression. I hope she thinks it is a fitting and accurate representation.''

Rapper Suge Knight hospitalized once again for third time

Rap mogul Marion "Suge" Knight was taken to hospital for the third time in less than a month Monday, as he made his latest appearance in court.

The 49-year-old, who has complained of medical problems since he was arrested in late January over a fatal hit-and-run incident, said he has lost 35 pounds in weight and is blind in one eye.

"At this time, I don't know if I can proceed," he told LA Superior Court judge James Brandlin at Monday's hearing, which was cut short after Knight said he had fired his attorneys.

Knight was seeking to have two cases against him -- for robbery and the hit-and-run, held separately in courts outside Los Angeles -- assigned to one judge in downtown LA itself.

Telling the judge about his health woes, he said he was "100 percent blind in one eye," losing vision in the other, and was sometimes disoriented.

About 3000 thousand people homeless in 12 Hours Fire Raid in Manila

At least 3,000 people have been left homeless after a large fire, which lasted for more than 12 hours, hit a shanty town in the centre of the Philippines capital, local government sources have said.

The government was unable to determine the cause of the fire late on Monday, with some of the victims accused the fire services in Manila of being slow in tackling the blaze. No casualties were reported.

"The fire was not as big when it started but they [the firefighters] did not extinguish it right away, the fire was at one of the entrance gates but the firefighters did not do anything, they just let the fire get bigger," Nelia Dalin Papas, a victim, told the AP news agency.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, Joel Casas said: "I can't express my grief when I look around me I can't even explain what happened. There is nothing to save.

Isis Terror Group Issues Threats to Twitter Owner Jack Dorsey and Employess Over Blocked Accounts

Reports going around the media says ISIS supporters have posted a message online threatening Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey as well as other employees at the social media company.

The message, written in Arabic and uploaded on Sunday to image- and text-sharing site JustPaste.it, expresses anger at the company’s blocking of accounts associated with ISIS.

Translated by BuzzFeed, the message, which included an image of Dorsey in crosshairs (below), said, “Your virtual war on us will cause a real war on you.”

FIRS: You can Now Conveniently Pay Your tax online

Talking about going technological, Nigeria is getting there as the FIRS announces a platform for Nigerians to pay their taxes online, what a convenient way. The Federal Inland Revenue Service on Monday announced the take-off of the online tax payers’ platform to ease the payment of taxes in the country.

The Service explained that with the new arrangement, anybody who wishes to pay tax can easily do so online by logging into the internet banking platform of any of the commercial banks, choose the FIRS link and follow the prompts.

Acting Chairman of the FIRS, Kabir Mashi, said the new platform is the product of the electronic tax-pay solution, an ease of tax payment initiative of the Service in collaboration with the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System and Systemspecs Limited.
