Three Al Jazeera journalists who were in an Egyptian jail for more than 400 days have been awarded a prestigious British journalism prize .

The Royal Television Society on Wednesday presented its Judges' Award to Peter Greste, Baher Mohamed and Mohamed Fahmy in recognition of an outstanding contribution to the advancement of television journalism.

"Tonight the RTS recognises the three 'brothers' as Peter has called them. The released one and two on bail; Peter Greste, Mohamed Fahmy and Baher Mohamed. 

"Men who conducted themselves with enormous dignity and courage in the face of continued uncertainty about their fate. And we also recognise the commitment of the people who have campaigned and continue to campaign for the release of the two on bail.”

Rapper Nicki Minaj's Tour Manager Killed in Philadelphia

Nicki Minaj is “so sad” after two of her crew members were stabbed during an altercation in Philadelphia on Tuesday.

According to TMZ De'Von Pickett, 29, who worked as the rapper's road and tour manager was killed while another crew member, 27-year-old Eric Parker, was left in a critical condition. And the Super Bass singer seemingly confirmed the reports by posting a photograph of the two men on Instagram on Wednesday morning.

“These guys flew into Philly for my tour rehearsals 2 days ago and were both stabbed last night. #RIPDAYDAY condolences to your family. Unbelievable,” she wrote. “Eric (on the right) is recovering. Another senseless act of violence that took the life of a great guy. So sad.(sic)”

Samsung Ready to Rival Apple Pay in Mobile Wallet Payment, acquires LoopPay

Apple Pay may have a new competitor in the mobile wallet space.

Today, mobile payment startup LoopPay revealed it has been purchased by Samsung Electronics for an undisclosed amount.

Samsung was said to be in talks with LoopPay back in December, but now it looks like the two struck a deal, according to a letter on LoopPay’s website. The note says that the company is now a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics America:

New Discovery! Experimental new HIV treatment may Prevent infection

Researchers say that they have developed an HIV treatment capable of blocking infection in monkeys for more than 40 weeks after being administered. The results, reported today in Nature, appear so promising that the researchers believe it may be able to work as an effective HIV vaccine. The research was led from the Scripps Research Institute.

THE RESEARCHERS ARE EAGER TO BEGIN HUMAN TRIALS

The treatment works by injecting a subject with a harmless virus that prompts the body to create a protein of the researchers' design. That protein is then able to block parts of the virus that are used for latching onto cells, thus preventing it from spreading.

Jega tells Senators he can’t guarantee elections will hold March 28

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Attahiru Jega, has told Nigerian federal lawmakers he could not guarantee the 2015 general elections will hold on rescheduled dates in March and April.

At a meeting with Senators Wednesday, Mr. Jega said he could not commit himself to the “sanctity” of March 28 and April 11 – dates for the rescheduled Nigeria’s general elections.

He said the electoral commission could not guarantee aspects of the poll that are beyond its control.

Mr. Jega met with the lawmakers to review the decision to postpone the polls from February.

Former President George W. Bush explained Thursday that he has avoided publicly criticizing President Obama because he feels it would undermine the office of the presidency.

Meet the first female commercial pilot from Kano State, Nigeria

Meet Fatima Abba Gwadabe, the first female pilot from Kano state. Fatima  who hails from Dambatta LGC, lives with her parents at Suleiman Crescent, Off Ahmadu Bello Way, Kano.  She was among the Kano state indigenes awarded scholarship by the state for a postgraduate programme in piloting after graduating with a first class degrees in 2012.

Fatima Abba Gwadabe was recently recognized by the the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) with inclusion in the prestigious FAA Airmen Certification Database, after successfully completing her programme.

The corpse of another woman was found this morning at the Idiroko area of Lagos. She was found lying by the side of the road. Her body has since been removed but the police and they are yet to identify her.

New report coming from NBC News suggest that racism won't allow Northen Regional terror Group ISIS team up with another dreaded terror group in the West, Boko Haram, (And we all say Amen!).

The Arab world is incredibly racist," explained a U.S. intelligence official. "They don't see black Africans as equivalent to them."

ISIS may show "affinity" with Boko Haram, said the official, "but they stop short of allegiance." Moreover, said the official, while Boko Haram has in the past year released videos to show "affiliation" with groups like ISIS, there's no evidence of either group sending members to fight with the other. And while Boko Haram has praised ISIS, and shown the ISIS flag in videos, ISIS has not reciprocated.

Amateur footage shows the man repeatedly trying to get onto a train, only to be shoved out of the door and back onto the platform. The fans are heard chanting "We’re racist, we’re racist, and that’s the way we like it".

The incident was filmed at the Richelieu-Drouot station ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League game against Paris Saint-Germain at Parc des Princes on 17 February, and released to the Guardian by British expatriate Paul Nolan.

Report: Chinese Government gives 17 buses to Ghana

The Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Ms Sun Baohong on Tuesday presented 17 ZhongTong buses to the Ministry of Transport for onward distribution to state institutions which need them.

The presentation of the 35–seater buses, which cost 10 million Chinese Yuan, was in partial fulfillment of the Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement signed between the Governments of Ghana and China in 2009 and September 2010.

Receiving the buses, Mrs Dzifa Attivor, Minister of Transport, expressed her appreciation to the Chinese Government for its assistance to the economic development of Ghana over the years.

“Despite the long distance, cultural and socio-economic differences, cooperation in various fields have deepened, enhanced the existing cordial relations to the mutual benefits of both countries”, she said.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has cried foul over Paris Saint-Germain targeting Eden Hazard during Tuesday’s 1-1 first leg draw at Paris. The Portuguese manager claimed that Hazard was fouled nine times during the match and called for greater protection for his key playmaker.

Mourinho claimed that the Belgian, who was one of the five Chelsea players who went on to the pitch on Tuesday carrying an injury, was taken down by an aggressive PSG side time and again. FG blocks N208billion ghost workers scam in the Civil Service - Minister of Finance

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala yesterdayrevealed that the federal government has blocked a N208.7 billion ghost workers scam in government parastatals and agencies after a biometric collection exercise carried out to get a proper data of federal civil servants revealed that 62,893 of the workers who were hitherto on the payroll of the federal government were ghost workers.

Speaking to newsmen in Abuja, the Minister said when the biometric exercise was introduced, most of the civil servants did not show up, an indication that they were ghost workers and after their disengagement, the federal government has been able to save about N208.7 billion usually expended as salaries and benefits on these ghost workers

In the video, released on social media on Tuesday and obtained by US based SITE intelligence group, Shekau issued a warning to the Goodluck Jonathan's government that next month's elections would be disrupted with violence.
