Premier League sells TV rights to Sky Sports and BT Sport in record £5 billion deal

The Premier League has sold the UK broadcasting rights for a record £5.136 billion for the next three seasons, which is a 71% increase in the value of the rights from the last round. Sky Sports has paid £4.2 billion for five of the seven TV packages while BT Sport has paid £960 million for the other two packages in the record TV rights auction. This TV deal is said to run for next three years from 2016 to 2019. 

Sky Sports is said to have paid 83% more than it did in the last round three years ago. They also mentioned that they will pay £1.392 billion per year (or £11.07 million per match) for the right to broadcast 126 live matches, which is 10 matches more than what they currently broadcast.

Assistant Inspector General Of Police Dies

The police Force has officially announced the sudden death of AIG Ibrahim Maishanu, who died February 8, 2015 while undergoing treatment at an Indian Hospital. The deceased was the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Information Technology, Force Headquarters, Abuja until his death.

Maishanu was from Yabo Local Government Area of Sokoto State, born on October 11, 1959 and enlisted into the Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on January 1, 1984. He had his initial training at the Nigeria Police College, Ikeja, Lagos. He held a Bachelor of Science degree in Management and had attended several professional courses both at home and abroad. He was an alumnus of NIPSS.

Meanwhile, Suleiman Abba, who is the Inspector-General of Police, as a matter of urgency, has redeployed 33 Commissioners of Police to various Commands and Formations.

Report: UN worried about fate of 125,000 Nigerian refugees in Niger

The UN food agency on Tuesday voiced concern for the 125,000 Nigerian refugees who have fled to southeast Niger, where Boko Haram militants have launched attacks in recent days.

"The World Food Programme is particularly concerned by the attacks in the north of Nigeria which are spreading to Niger, forcing thousands of people to flee," WFP spokeswoman Elisabeth Byrs said.

Byrs stressed "the appalling situation" in which refugees live in the Diffa region, where the population has almost doubled and food stocks are becoming scarce.

Nigeria's Islamist Boko Haram group has since Friday launched three large-scale attacks in the Diffa region, which borders the northeastern Nigerian state of Borno where the militants control large swathes of territory.

Report: Boko Haram abducts 8 Cameroon girls, kills 7 other hostages

YAOUNDE, Cameroon (AP) — Residents in northern Cameroon say Boko Haram extremists have killed seven hostages and abducted eight young girls who were aboard a public transport bus hijacked by the militants over the weekend.

Chetima Ahmidou told The Associated Press on Tuesday that the bodies of seven victims had been dumped near Cameroon's border with Nigeria. Ahmidou's brother was the driver of the bus and was among those slain.

Bobbi Kristina Brown reportedly suffered facial injuries before she was found lifeless in her bathtub.

The 21-year-old aspiring actress - the daughter of the late Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown - was found lifeless in her Atlanta home late last month and police are said to be stepping up an investigation as to what happened to her after seeing a number of marks around her mouth, sources told WSB-TV.

It was previously claimed police have been looking into a possible altercation between Bobbi and her boyfriend Nick Gordon which took place over an hour before their friend Max Lomas discovered the unconscious starlet, who is currently fighting for her life in hospital.

Report: At least 40 dead in violence at football game in Cairo

At least 40 people have been killed and dozens injured after clashes erupted between police and supporters of Egypt's Zamalek football club at a game in Cairo, medics say.

According to witness accounts, police tried to set up barricades and used tear gas to disperse football fans trying to force their way into the army-owned stadium in the city's northeast on Sunday.

The Egyptian Interior Ministry said that the clashes occurred after supporters of Zamalek, known as Ultras White Knights, tried to attend the game without buying tickets.
