Buhari opt out of Presidential debate Organized by BON - APC Statement
APC says it's presidential candidate Gen Buhari will not be participating in the presidential debate being organized by the Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria BON and the Nigeria Election Debate Group (NEDG) .
In a statement released today January 29th by Garna Shehu, the Director, Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation (APCPCO), they said Buhari will not be participating in the debate as the composition of those organizing the debate was mainly of agencies and allies of the incumbent People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) administration.

Report: African Union to dedicate regional force to fight Boko Haram
Amidst the risen threat of Boko Harm in Nigeria, the African Union has called for a regional five-nation force of 7,500 troops to defeat the "horrendous" rise of the Nigerian armed group Boko Haram, AU Commission Chief Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has said.
The statement on Friday came after Boko Haram increased cross border raids in recent weeks, in neighbouring countries such as Cameroon and Chad, as it continued to take over more territory in Nigeria.

Report: US contractors 'killed in insider attack' in Kabul
Three American contractors were killed in an apparent insider attack in the Afghan capital Kabul, an Afghan air force official told Reuters news agency.
"It is unclear yet why he shot these advisers and no one else was there to tell us the reason," the official said, asking not to be named because he was not authorised to give statements to the media.

Bird Flu Updates: Minister Confirms 11 States Affected in Nigeria
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Akinwumi Adesina, on Wednesday confirmed the outbreak of bird flu in 11 states of the federation.
Adesina announced that the Federal Government had approved N145 million to compensate farmers affected by the outbreak of the disease.
He made the disclosure at an emergency meeting on Avian Influenza with state commissioners for agriculture in Abuja.

Amnesty International says Nigerian military ignored advance warnings of Boko Haram attacks on Baga, Monguno
The Nigerian military for several weeks ignored repeated warnings of impending attacks on Baga and Monguno by Boko Haram and failed to take action to protect civilians, said global human rights organisation, Amnesty International.
Amnesty’s claim corroborates PREMIUM TIMES exclusive report of January 26 which indicated the Nigerian military received reliable intelligence report indicating that the Boko Haram sect would launch a massive attack on Monguno, but that yet troops were taken by surprise when the insurgents struck early Sunday, suggesting the 5 Brigade stationed in the area failed to prepare adequately for the group’s onslaught.
