Obdulia Sanchez, 18, was singing and listening to music as she drove with her sister and another 14-year-old girl in the backseat when the vehicle suddenly veered off the roadway. The video then captures the sound of screams as Sanchez tried correcting the turn.
She swerved across lanes, crashed through a fence and flipped, according to California Highway Patrol.
Her Buick Century came to rest in a grassy field along Highway 165 just north of Los Banos, about 60 miles south of her Stockton home, around 6:45 p.m.
Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke said neither of the teens in the backseat were wearing seat belts and both were ejected from the vehicle, according to KFSN-TV.
The Instagram video appears to cut to Sanchez mourning her dying sister, identified by the Sheriff’s Office as Jacqueline Sanchez.
“My sister is f–king dying. Look,” Sanchez said, pointing her phone at her sister’s bloodied head. “I f–king love my sister to death. I don’t give a f–k.”
The other 14-year-old passenger, who was wounded in the wreck, can be seen attempting to wave down help.
“This is the last thing I wanted to happen to us, but it just did,” she added. “Jacqueline, please wake up.
“I f–king killed my sister, okay? I know I’m going to prison for life.”
Sanchez was taken into custody at the crash site and booked into Merced County jail on suspicion of driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter.
Police did not specify if she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
A family member told the Fresno television station that Sanchez would have celebrated her Quinceanera on Sunday.
