Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC Boss, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has lamented that there were over seven million uncollected Permanent Voters Cards, PVCs, across the country, saying it posed a challenge to future elections.
He said this, yesterday, at a one-day CSO strategy meeting to review elections in Nigeria post 2015, in Lagos.
Represented by National Commissioner (North Central) in-charge of Elections and Party and Monitoring, Professor Anthonia Simbine, the INEC boss also said desperation for power by politicians posed the greatest challenge faced by the election management body in the country.
In his address, entitled: Review elections 2015: Overview, challenges and prospects, organised by the Independent Service Delivery Monitoring Group, ISDMG, Prof Yakubu lamented that “apathetic citizenry, weak political parties and inadequate institutional support for voter mobilisation and enlightenment resulted in low participation at elections, by both voters and political parties and over seven million uncollected PVCs.”
