Police gun down two armed robbers in fierce battle after allegedly stealing N105, 000


Two robbery suspects belonging to a three-man gang have been killed by officers of the Bayelsa state police command.

They were shot dead after they allegedly robbed a supermarket in Yenagoa and carted away the sum of N105,000.

A police team from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) arrived the robbery scene following a distress call and immediately engaged the robbers in a gunfight which resulted in fatal injuries to two members of the three-man gang.


The two injured suspects were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, but died on the way while, the third suspect escaped with minor bullet wounds.

The Bayelsa Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Asinim Butswat, who confirmed the incident, said the police were on the trail of the suspect that escaped.

Butswat said: “Three young men, armed with locally-made pistols, attacked Ankos Supermarket in Opolo, Yenagoa, and carted away the sum of N105,000.
“The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) swiftly responded to the distress call and the armed robbers engaged the policemen in a gun duel.
“Consequently, one of the suspects escaped, while the other suspects sustained gunshot injuries. They were arrested and taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, where they were confirmed dead.
“Their corpses were deposited for autopsy.Two locally-made revolver pistols, with three live .9mm ammunition, one purse containing N105, 000 and an earring were recovered from the deceased suspects.
“Manhunt has been intensified to arrest the fleeing suspect. Investigation is ongoing.”
