Jese Rodriguez says Barcelona have “no chance” of overcoming a 4-0 Champions League round-of-16 deficit against his parent club Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday, and only his former side Real Madrid would be capable of doing so.
Barcelona will make history if they can overcome PSG to reach the Champions League quarterfinals, a feat no side has ever achieved previously.
Jese, who joined Las Palmas on loan from PSG in January, six months after leaving Real Madrid to sign for PSG, told Onda Cero radio: “The only team that can overturn that is Real Madrid.
“I would have doubts if PSG were to face Real Madrid.”
Barca warmed up for their midweek showdown with PSG by demolishing Celta Vigo, 5-0, at home on Saturday to remain one point clear of Real Madrid at the top of La Liga.
“They [Barcelona] have no chance,” Jese said. “Besides PSG having great players, they are physically very well and they are ready.
“They are well trained and Unai has worked a lot on the tactical and physical aspects.
“It’s going to be very complicated for Barca as they not only have to score four times but also not concede.
“I want PSG to win and progress.”
Jese, who joined Las Palmas in search of more playing time, scored his first goal for the club on Sunday.
The 24-year-old had a brace in his sixth appearance for the Canary Islands-based club in a 5-2 home triumph over bottom-side Osasuna.
It was his club’s first win since Jan. 30.
“I’m not going to lie, I really needed to score,” Jese said. “I was playing well but my shots weren’t going in. Finally it has.
“This is going to give me a boost in confidence. The important thing is that the team won, although if I score, too, all the better.”
Jese had a special dedication for his first goals while wearing the yellow jersey.
“My girlfriend is pregnant, we are going to have a baby, so I dedicate the goals to her,” he said.
Jese had celebrated his first goal for Las Palmas by putting the ball up his shirt and signalling to the crowd.
