Debtors grounding our operations – NIPOST

The Nigerian Postal Services has said its operations are constrained by debtors who were owing for services rendered.

The Area Postal Manager, Rivers State Territory, Mrs. Danso Olusola, who stated this during a sensitization programme for Stamp Duty Act, pleaded with those indebted to NIPOST to clear their debts.

Olusola said, “We use this opportunity to appeal to our numerous customers, who are owing us to pay us their outstanding rents and debts so that they can continue to have unfettered access to our services.

She added that the Stamp Duty Act, when passed into law, would help in the generation of revenue for the state and the federal governments.

According to her, the purpose of the Act is to protect buyers and individuals in their transaction that involves N1,000 and above.

The NIPOST area manager expressed the need for individuals to validate their transactions with minimum of N50 adhesives postage stamp.
“NIPOST has the power to administer the Stamp Duty Act 2004 as a means of creating huge revenue base for the economy, but the Stamp Duties which is supposed to create a huge revenue base for our economy remains unpopular till date among its targeted audience,” Olusola stated.
The area postal manager said the low sensitisation in the past on the Stamp Duty had led to non-compliance by our people, noting that the Act was part of the diversification of the economy by the Federal Government.
“Stamp Duty Act is part of the diversification of the economy of the Federal Government so that the country does not continue to rely on just one source of income which everybody knows is the oil industry.”
