A brave bus driver has saved a suicidal woman in a most amazing manner while on a routine journey.
Metro reports that Damone Hudson, who drives a bus in Dayton, Ohio, was crossing the Main Street Bridge when he noticed a woman standing on the wrong side of the rail.
He was shown on CCTV immediately pulling the bus over and opening the door, before trying to talk the woman back from the ledge.
‘Why don’t we come back over on this side of the rail?’ he’s heard saying as he gets out of the bus. ‘Hey miss, why don’t we come back on this side of the rail for me?’
As Damone gets out of the bus, the audio cuts out – but he is seen continuing to talk to the woman. He told Fox45 that he tried to offer the woman words of comfort, saying: ‘Ma’am, you look like you’re having a bad day, you know. Can I give you a hug?’
He said he was trying ‘anything to get her to come back over on the other side of the rail’.
‘Everything’s going through something,’ Damone continued. ‘Even if you are, just reach out and try to touch someone, even if it’s in a small way.’
His persistent and encouraging talk stalled the woman from falling to her death until officers from Dayton Police Department arrived. Since the incident, officials have praised Damone for his compassion and quick thinking. Jason Allen, from the bus company RTA, even told Fox that Damone is ‘one of the best bus drivers we have’.
Meanwhile, Damone said the experience has had a profound effect on him.
‘I know that every person’s struggle is different and everybody’s going through something, but you always want to continue,’ he told WHIO.
‘Life is a roller coaster right? You go up, you’re going to come down. But you’ve got to think “I’m going back up” – and hopefully it’s going up for her now.’Watch the video below:
