Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has warned hotel owners in the state against providing hideouts for kidnappers and other criminals.
Wike explained that with the cooperation of hotel owners in Rivers, crime would be reduced in the state.
The governor, who issued this warning during a meeting with hotel owners at the Government House in Port Harcourt, observed that most hoteliers hardly record the identities of those who lodged in their hotels.
“Some hotels in Rivers State are hideouts for kidnappers. You don’t report who lodge in your hotels. You just do whatever you want to do. We are very serious now and crime must come down by the grace of God.
“Sometimes, they kidnap people and bring them to your hotels. Be sure you would be caught; if you are one of them, too bad,” the governor stressed.
Wike, however, stated that he was now fully in charge of revenue drive in the state.
The governor said that his decision to personally drive revenue generation was borne out of his administration’s determination to sustain the “mass execution” of projects across the state.
He said, “I am now fully in charge of revenue drive in the state. The aim is to make the environment conducive for businesses to thrive.”
