The Presidency has said the situation of President Muhammadu Buhari is different from that of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
Recall that the Yar’Adua was flown abroad under controversial situation and was later pronounced dead.
But the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, while featuring on Channels Television insisted that the situation then and now were different.
Adesina pointed out that during Yar’Adua’s administration; the late President never handed over power to his Vice unlike what Buhari did when he embarked on his vacation.
Buhari who was initially expected to be away for 10 days Sunday sent a letter to the National Assembly, asking for an indefinite extension of his vacation .
According to Adesina, “You can’t compare the Yar’Adua scenario/saga with what is happening now. Then you could ask for daily updates because the President left the country without anybody been told where he was headed and why he was going there.
“Two, he did not transfer power to his then deputy, the Vice President. That is not the situation now. When the President was leaving on January 19th, we issued a statement.
“He was going on vacation and he would do routine medical check-ups. Now when those medical checkups need to be extended, we also announced it that because he needed to still do more and get the results, he has asked for an extension.
“Three, power has been transferred to the Vice President who is the Acting President.”
