Igbo groups call on Ohanaeze President, Nwodo to resign after visiting Atiku Abubakar

Two Igbo groups, Wednesday, demanded the resignation of President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief John Nnia Nwodo.

The call followed his reported visit to former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in his Abuja residence on Tuesday.

However, in separate press statements by the South-East Young Professionals, SYP, and the Igbo Students Forum, ISF, they described the visit as “petty, patronizing and against the overall interest of Ndigbo.”

According to them, the visit was self-serving and meant to not only jeopardize Igbo presidency but the agitation for Biafra.

The groups wondered why Nwodo who has not visited any political or religious leaders in the South-East, chose the Turakin Adamawa as his first point of call.

In his statement, the national coordinator of SYP, Comrade Chinua Okoro accused Nwodo of trading off Igbo presidency on the course of his visit to Atiku.
“We received with heavy shock and deep embarrassment the visit of the new Ohanaeze leadership led by Chief John Nnia Nwodo to former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.
“We are shocked and disappointed because it is on record that ever since Nwodo was elected, he has not visited any political or religious leader in Igbo land; neither has he paid any visit to elders statesmen in this part of the country.
“It is, therefore, most self-serving, most petty that his first point of call, that his first official function is the fruitless visit to Atiku.
“More worrisome is the news making the rounds that Atiku’s 2019 ambition featured prominently when he hosted Nwodo. This is quite pathetic coming at a time Igbo presidency is becoming realistic more than ever.
“Having made the above observations, we call on his to resign forthwith as the Ohanaeze president as he lacks what it takes to lead our people. We are not ready to allow him commercialize Ohanaeze as he has done already.
“We recall that in his first public speech, he unveiled his a sad commentary of how successive governments never considered him for any position after he served as minister. It then thus appears that he desperately sees his present office as means to self glorification and enrichment. We will not let this happen”, Okoro vowed.
Similarly, Comrade Kalu Umeh of the ISF alleged that Nwodo was equally sabotaging the Biafra agenda.

While accusing him of sidelining the ‘Imeobi’, Ohanaeze highest decision-making body, Umeh challenged Nwodo to disclose when the visit on Atiku was discussed either by the NEC or the Imeobi.
“He is on his own and whatever he promised Atiku is of no consequence; he went there to trade off Biafra and Igbo presidency, but we can assure him that he failed.
“Since he has no sense of direction but only wants to play politics with Ohanaeze, he should resign honourably and pursue his political carrier in the All Progressives Congress”, Umeh further stated.
