Afghanistan | US commando killed by roadside bomb


A U.S. commando has been killed in Afghanistan after being hit by a roadside bomb while on patrol with Afghan forces in a northeastern province bordering Pakistan, the U.S. military said Tuesday.

U.S. special operations forces have been conducting counterterror operations with Afghan troops against Islamic State militants in Achin, Nangarhar province. The U.S. military said the service member died Tuesday from wounds sustained when the patrol triggered an improvised explosive device. The commando's identity has not yet been released, pending notification of family.

Teachers say hard work is the secret of Huge Success in WASSCE


Some teachers in the South-South zone have attributed the improved performance of students in the May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) to hard work.

The teachers expressed the view in interviews conducted by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the performance of students in the past five years.

They said sustained motivation for teachers would lead to success for students.

Nurse apprehended after drugging and raping a Patient in Lagos


A 27-year-old male nurse, Olugbenga Isaac, was on Tuesday arraigned in an Ikeja Magistrates’ court in Lagos for allegedly drugging and raping a 19-year-old girl.

Isaac, a resident of Ajah area of Lagos is being tried for rape.

The prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Sept.15 at Onipanu, Lagos.

Operatives of the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Zone II, Onikan, have arrested 10 suspected armed robbers who terrorised about 15 Lagos and Ogun communities.

Lekan Akinola, Mutiu Oyekan, Akeem Sanusi, Olahusi Rasaq, Kazeem Oladipupo, Waheed Amusan and four others were arrested Tuesday after police tracked a mobile phone they stole from one of their victims at Arigbajo in Ogun several months ago.

#DasukiGate: ECOWAS court orders FG to pay N15m to Sambo Dasuki, for unlawful arrest


The Court of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, has ruled against the arrest and continued detention of former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, describing it as unlawful and arbitrary.

Delivering judgement today in a suit filed by Dasuki, the court ruled that the further arrest of Dasuki by security agents on November 4th last year after he was granted bail by a court of law, amounts to a mockery of democracy and the rule of law.
