Recession not an excuse not to celebrate Christmas – Clergy

Pastor Peter Aina of Christ Word Assembly, Olunlade, Ilorin, has called on Christians to celebrate Christmas despite the current economic recession.

Aina, who made the call in Ilorin on Monday said that Christmas was an annual festival commemorating the birth of Jesus that deserves the best of celebration by his followers.

“There is no reason or excuse for Christians not to celebrate the birth of Christ, our Saviour. There is no need for panic as it is an annual event that deserves the best celebration.
“The hardship in the town is not funny, but that doesn’t stop Christians from giving Christ the best celebration He deserves.
”Christmas comes once in a year and should be celebrated in high spirit,” he said.
The pastor encouraged Christians to show love to their neighbours during the festival by giving out gifts, adding that Jesus loves the cheerful givers.

He called on Nigerians to continue to pray for the unity, peace and progress of the nation.
