Chelsea escape points deduction as FA fines club £100,000

Chelsea have escaped a possible points deduction, following their bench-clearing fracas at the end of their 3-1 win over Manchester City on December 3.

The brawl started after City striker, Sergio Aguero, lunged into Blues defender David Luiz. Aguero and Fernandinho were eventually sent off.

Manchester United and Arsenal were punished for brawling in 1990 with points deduction and the FA has already warned Chelsea, after they appealed over the ugly scenes in the London Derby against Tottenham in May this year.

The conclusion of that panel was that Chelsea could be be docked points if their players continued to misbehave.

But the FA has decided to fine the Premier League leaders £100,000 and Manchester City £35,000.

An FA statement said: “Following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing, Manchester City and Chelsea have been fined £35,000 and  respectively after both admitted a breach of FA Rule E20(a).
“The two clubs were charged for failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative behaviour.
“It followed an incident in the 95th minute of the game on Saturday 3 December 2016.”
