Olu Maintain Says “Most People Get Married For The Glamour”

Singer Olu Maintain has stated that most people get married just for the glamour, but that’s not an excuse for him not to get married. He also waded into the current economic instability in the country.

In a chat with HipTv, the Lagos-born singer, on the current situation in the country, said,
“Nigeria politics is a very complex equation to solve. There is so much ethnicity.
“It’s very challenging. You can tell that they are well-intentioned; from the very aggressive crusade against corruption trying to indict people but you know at the same time, it’s a question of the right government at the wrong time.
Look at what is happening with the Naira against the dollar for example, a lot of what is responsible for that has nothing to do with the government but I mean when you are selling oil at a 100 USD per barrel and it increases to about three hundred and something USD, and oil constitute like 68 – 70% of what we bank on as our export in this country, I mean the Naira is going to take a hit.
There is so much uncertainty, there is unrest with the militants that control the oil area and so on, so it’s just a situation that was already bad and it has to get a little bit worse before it can get better unfortunately.
It’s not like this government is just sitting down and enjoying the direction this country is going.
But I’m still very optimistic that there will be light at the end of the dark tunnel.”
On marriage, the ‘Yahozee’ crooner said,
“A lot of people that get married these days get married for the wrong reasons. Everybody looks forward to the wedding but nobody is ready for the commitment of the marriage and marriage is a life time commitment.
Marriage is a decision that you have to live with the consequences for the rest of your life, so 9 times out of 10, people get married for the glamour, the wedding ceremony, the grams, the likes, the harsh-tags but marriage entails a lot more than that.
I’m not saying that’s my excuse for not wanting to get married but I know enough to know that to balance your marriage and a successful music career is like balancing the economy of Nigeria and we all know how it is going with this present dispensation now.
It’s very challenging, so I would rather not fail at both and focus on one,” he added.
