The Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) has denied the existence of any faction in the party as a lead up to the removal of its national officers last week.
Debunking what it said was reports making the rounds in some sections of the media, the party said the removal of its national officers and inauguration of a 15-member committee to run the affairs of the party until a convention is organized, was with the full compliment of the National Executive Committee (NEC) who were present at the inauguration.
This was contained in a release and signed by the national publicity secretary, National Caretaker Committee, Maidukiya Abubakar, just as he stated that the former National Chairman, Alh Bashir Yusuf Ibrahim, and the former Deputy National Chairman, Titi Ajanaku, failed to honour the invitations to the NEC meeting even after being invited.
The statement reads in part: “It is pertinent to state that on Thursday Nov. 24, 2016 at the Habitat Guest House, No. 2 Stephen Orosanya Street, off Sa’adu Zungur 4th Avenue, Gwarimpa, Abuja, a total number of 51 out of 59 National Executive Committee (NEC) members met and endorsed the dissolution of the national officers of the party led by Alh. Bashir Yusuf Ibrahim.
“The endorsement and dissolution took place in the presence of all the national principal officers except the former National Chairman, Ibrahim, and the former Deputy National Chairman, Titi Ajanaku, who failed to honour their invitations to the NEC meeting.
“Since inception in 2013, the PDM has been operating as a united party, therefore, the fact that its national executive officers were dissolved did not in any way imply that the party has been factionalised.
“PDM urges Nigerians with good intention to develop Nigeria, to join hands with the party to achieve the Nigeria of our dream.”
