Kenya | Doctors successfully perform first surgery of conjoined twins in Africa (Photos)


Team of 50 Kenyan doctors and medical specialists successfully separate conjoined twins - Blessing and Favour after a 23 hour operation, the first ever separation of conjoined twins in Africa.

Doctors waited two years to perform the surgery to allow for the development of key organs, and muscle strong enough for surgery. Doctors will reconstruct the children's skins, genitalia, anal canal and bowel in subsequent operations.


The conjoined twin girls who were born on 4th September 2014 were joined at the sacral region of the lower spinal cord, but are now recovering at the hospital's intensive care unit.
