Kano | Sharia Police begins prosecution of women for 'romancing' men that aren't their husbands and other crimes


The Faggae Outpost of the Kano State Hisbah Board (Sharia Police) on Monday, said it has began the prosecution of 11 women who were found drinking, smoking and romancing with men who are not their husbands, vices which are contrary to the Sharia legal system.

According to Malam Salisu Umar, the Commander, Special Services of the board, the suspects, including four divorcees with kids and a three-month-old pregnant woman, were apprehended around the Sabongari area during a special patrol conducted by the Fagge local government office of the Board.
"The suspects are females between the ages of 21 and 24 and were apprehended around midnight at beer parlours in Faringida and Abedie Road in Sabongari. We have brought them before a competent Sharia court for prosecution," he said.
Umar disclosed that the suspects were taken to court after which the case was adjourned till November 14th, 2016. They are currently awaiting trial at the Central Prisons, Kano.

He said the state had been practicing the Islamic legal code that prohibits such act of immorality, stressing that the board would intensify its efforts to patrol identified flash points, arrest and prosecute whoever engages in vices. Source: Daily Trust
