Flamboyant human rights lawyer, Mr. Fred Agbaje, died on Saturday in London after an undisclosed illness.
News of his death flashed through social media although the cause was not known.
Agbaje, who hailed from Akoko Edo in Edo State, was renowned for his robust human rights work and legal insight.
A friend and colleague, Mr. Richard Akinnola, confirmed the news.
He said he last saw Agbaje at the 30th anniversary of the killing of foremost Nigerian newspaper editor, Dele Giwa, on October 19, 2016.
Akinnola, who said he was devastated at the news of Agbaje’s transition, said he was ill.
Another lawyer, Gbenga Demola-Ojo, wrote on Facebook: “Another great loss! Fred Agbaje, constitutional lawyer, gentleman, media personality and patriot!
“May your great soul find rest!.”
Another colleague, Gabriel Giwa-Amu, wrote: “Fred is gone! !!! …..this is real pain. ….this is real shock. …rest in perfect peace my bro and friend. …”
Agbaje appeared on many television and radio programmes where he discussed human rights and trending political issues.
