Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr has declared that the trio of Daniel Akpeyi, Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Dele Alampasu will fight for the No I shirt ahead the 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Algeria slated for Uyo, Akwa Ibom State next weekend.
Speaking through the Team Media Officer, Toyin Ibitoye, yesterday, Rohr who is not happy over the absence of the Super Eagles first choice keeper, Carl Ikeme for the match, stated that the technical crew decided to bring in Akpeyi to avoid lapses in build up to the match.
He stated that the absence of the Wolverhampton Wanderers goal tender, Ikeme, would not affect the Eagles goal keeping department, adding that the other keepers are good enough to mount the post against Algeria.’
‘’Akpeyi would not get automatic shirt for the Algeria tie. He would fight for a place with the other two goalkeepers in the team. You should realize that the goalkeeping department is technical, so, we cannot afford to manage Ikeme for the qualifier.
Speaking further, the Super Eagles Media Officer said: “Rohr is not happy over the development, but there is nothing anybody can do at this moment.’’
Ibitoye added that the German-born tactician will be present at the Federation Cup final between Nasarawa United and FC IfeanyinUbah, which will hold at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, this weekend.
