A man in Cajamarca, Peru, fell asleep on the edge of a river while almost naked after getting very drunk. The man, named locally as Jorge Luis Villanueva Anticona, was spotted by shocked locals, who had believed he was dead, while lying submerged in the mud.
They alerted police, who arrived on the scene and acted quickly to pull him out of the river Mashcon. Jorge Luis, 25, was then hosed down and taken to hospital by police.
Footage shows him looking shocked as he wakes up to see the police officers, saying: 'I didn't do anything.'
A source said he had drunk so much that he had been in danger of dying from alcohol poisoning.
He is also believed to have been suffering from severe hypothermia.
According to local media, he had wandered into the river for an unknown reason, and after giving up trying to get free, had decided just to go to sleep.
