Cameroon To Build Largest Sports Complex In Africa


Cameroon is set to build its largest sports complex to host the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019. The Japoma sports complex will hold a 50,000 seat stadium, a sports hall, an Olympic swimming pool, a handball court, gym, a large pool, two training courts, tennis courts, an annex of the national Football Academy, a shopping centre and landscaped areas according to the Cameroon Tribune.

A Turkish company will build the complex which is expected to cost around $143 billion with 75 percent of the project financed by the Turk Eximbank.


Japoma Sports complex must be “delivered four months before the start of the African Cup of Nations … which will take place in Cameroon in 2019,” Cameroon’s economy minister, Louis-Paul Motaze, said at the signing of the project financing agreement in Yaounde on Nov. 2

Yenigun Construction said on its website that the contract for the project was signed in December 2015. Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey said “this is the first time a Turkish company will carry out a project of this scale. But we are not worried, since it has expertise and has had to prove otherwise. ”

The complex which will be Doula will be built between 18 and 22 months
