The Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, said in the last 10 months, it recovered over N54 billion from fraudsters and corrupt politically exposed persons in Nigeria’s northwest.
This is separate from another N54 billion recovered from dubious petroleum marketers.
The commission said it also recovered over $622,000 and other property including eight houses, nine plots of land, three trucks and a car, all from January to date.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday at its Kano office, the zonal head of the EFCC, Nnaghe Itam, said the commission also secured 23 convictions out of 214 cases they had.
He noted that 24 cases are still undergoing investigations at the Kano zonal office.
Mr. Itam explained that the commission also beamed its searchlight on fraudulent petroleum marketers.
He said about N54 billion was also recovered from the petrol marketers after investigation into bridging and retail scheme of petrol.
The official said the EFCC was also working towards prevention of corruption by partnering with youth organisations like the NYSC integrity club, school campaigns and through essay competitions.
