How IBB, Abdulsalami help restore peace between Makarfi, Sheriff factions – Jang

The immediate past governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang, has disclosed that the reconciliation between the Ali Modu Sheriff and the Ahmed Makarfi factions of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, came as a result of the intervention by former military presidents, Generals Ibrahim Babangida, IBB, and Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd).

Making this disclosure while addressing PDP supporters on the efforts to reconcile aggrieved factional leaders of the party, Jang, now a senator, expressed optimism that the reconciliation of both factions “has sealed the party’s victory in 2019.”

He noted, with dismay, the manner in which top party chieftains dumped the PDP for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, pointing out that the intervention of the senior citizens in resolving the crisis attested to the fact that Nigerians have lost hope in the APC government.

The member of the PDP Board of Trustees, BoT, promised a committee would be set up to solidify the reconciliatory move by the former military president.

Recall that it was reported in June that both factions have now agreed to engage in a peace talk in a bid to end the leadership tussle currently rocking the party.

According to Jang, “Important stakeholders of the party intervened by reconciling the two factional leaders of the party. They include General Ibrahim Babagida and General Abdulsalami Abubakar, among others. They have been involved in the reconciliation of our two factional leaders, Senator Amodu Sheriff and Senator Ahmed Makarfi.
“The two leaders have now agreed for a committee to be formed to conduct a convention; with that understanding, all cases in court would be withdrawn and there will be no room for members to drag the party to court on issues that can be resolve internally.”
While challenging the opposition party to come up with strategies to counter the undemocratic behaviours of the APC in 2019, he said, “We take things for granted; we think PDP is so popular that organs saddled with the conduct of elections will go by our gentility. When you have an opponent who is not democratic, you should also find a way to counter his undemocratic behaviours.”
