Actress Taraji P. Henson Opens Up About Past Domestic Abuse in New Memoir

Actress Taraji P. Henson’s new memoir, Around The Way Girl, hits shelves next week. In newly released excerpts from the book, Taraji opens up about her dealing with domestic abuse at the hands of her son’s father.

“The next thing I knew, Mark’s balled-up fist was coming straight for my face. I fell onto the bed crying and holding my mouth; blood seeped off my lips and across my teeth,” Henson writes in the book out Sunday. “Droplets splashed across my shoes … slowly creeping into the fibers of my suede boots.”
After she saw the blood pouring from her mouth, the Golden Globe winner says that she yelled at him: “This is over! Get your s–t and get out!”

In 2003, Johnson was murdered at age 34.

Henson, 46, says her late father, Boris, urged her to reconcile with her troubled ex — but she chose to protect herself and her young son.
“With that separation, my forever man, my first love, was no more,” she writes.
The last time she saw Johnson was at Christmas when he came to visit her and Marcell, who was 9 at the time.

Father and son played Tic-Tac-Toe — and when the boy lost, Johnson “put his hand on his shoulder and schooled him,” she writes.

He told him, “use your head, black man,” Henson says of the now endearing moment.

Three weeks later, Johnson’s mother called her with the news that William had been stabbed to death after he got into an altercation with a couple at an apartment in Washington D.C.
