Don’t blame Gernot Rohr if Eagles fail to qualify for World Cup – Tijani Babangida

Ahead of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers billed to begin next month, former Super Eagles winger Tijani Babangida says the new technical adviser of the team, Gernot Rohr, is not to blame if Nigeria fails to qualify for the championship.

Babangida, who served as the personal assistant to former Super Eagles Coach, Sunday Oliseh, said Rorh may add little or nothing to the team because his coming was rather too close to the qualifiers.

According to him, Nigeria is not the favourite to top the group which also has number one African ranked nation, Algeria, four time champions Cameroon as well as 2012 champions Zambia.
“We are not the favourites to qualify because even on paper most of the other countries in the group are ranked higher than us. To qualify for the World Cup a lot goes into it including the well-being of the coach and the quality of our players at the moment.”
However, Babangida advised the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to ensure that they provide everything necessary to ensure that the players be at their best as they go into the qualifiers.

He equally charged the technical crew to ensure that they invite players based on their current form to have any chance of booking a place at the world stage.
