Examiners of the 2016 Primary School Leaving Certificate have seized the results due to the failure of the Delta State Government to pay them their allowances.
According to reports by Daily Post, it was also gathered that the examiners have threatened that unless the state governor, Ifeanyi Okowa pays them their wages, secondary schools in Warri will not admit students into Junior Secondary classes as they almost beat up our correspondent at Nana Secondary in Warri South Local Government Area, LGA, on Wednesday morning for daring to inquire into the matter.
Our correspondent, who went round town monitoring admission processes into public and private secondary schools in Warri, can report that the some of the examiners were very hostile as they described Okowa as a “wicked man” for failing to pay them their wages.
This is happening as primary school graduates are forced to sit at home for not being able to present results for admission into Secondary Schools in schools in Warri and its environs.
Apart from a few private schools that admits students without tendering their results, the government schools are returning parents and their children back home.
One of the examiners told Daily Post that “It is very bad that Governor Okowa has not paid us our allowances since we finished marking the exams that was written years back. I am disappointed in the governor.”
The Delta State Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, Comrade Jonathan Jemierieyigbe could not be reached for comments on the matter as at the time of filing this report as calls put across to his mobile phone line could not go through.
Meanwhile, efforts to reach the Delta Commissioner for Basic & Secondary Education, Mr. Chiedu Ebie were futile as persons contacted do not have his mobile phone number.
