Borno State | Troops recover large stash of ammunition from Boko Haram


The troops of the Nigerian Army have recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition from the Boko Haram insurgents in Borno.

The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, said in a statement on Saturday that troop recovered the arms and ammunition at a residential area of Bulabulin Ngarna on Friday morning following a tip-off from members of the Civilian JTF.


Usman said that the troops recovered  “three sealed boxes of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition, three jerry cans containing various calibres of ammunition, two sacks containing 5,998 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition and 1, 760 rounds of 5.56mm  SS109 calibre of ammunitions.”

He said that the troops also recovered  five empty magazines of AK-47 rifle and a magazine of Fabrique Nationale rifle.

He commended the members of the Civilian JTF for their display of patriotism in the ongoing campaign against the insurgency in the North East.

He urged the members of the public to be security conscious and to report all suspicious persons to the security agencies.

Usman stressed  that there was the possibility that more of such arms and ammunition could be hidden by the insurgents in other parts of the North East.

He said, “Troops on Operation Lafiya Dole deployed in the outskirts of Maiduguri following a tip off from the Civilian JTF in the area have recovered a large cache of ammunition at a residential area of Bulabulin Ngarnam, Borno State, today.”
