Nigerian Navy patrol team deployed by NNS Jubilee, in Akwa Ibom state, has arrested three oil thieves around Prime Energy, just as another patrol team has also arrested three people suspected to be involved in illegal oil bunkering.
A statement by the Director Information, Nigerian Navy, Commodore Christian Ezekobe, said that the suspected oil thieves were caught conveying 10 drums of allegedly stolen Premium Motor Spirits (PMS) and five drums of suspected illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) in three-speed boats.
He said the suspected oil bunkers were caught with a 200HP speedboat carrying the sum of N2,622,450.00 and the money had been handed over to officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further action.
According to the statement: “Furthermore, NNS PATHFINDER patrol team raided an illegal refinery site around Isaka community in Rivers state. During the raid, the team destroyed the illegal refinery together with a Cotonou boat laden with suspected stolen crude oil and a ground reservoir with the unquantifiable quantity of suspected illegally refined AGO.
“Operatives of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) DELTA have arrested suspected illegal oil bunkerers at Epomu creek with a Cotonou boat carrying unspecified amount of product suspected to be crude oil.”
The Naval spokesperson said the maritime component of Operation Delta Safe discovered “haven for illegal refining of stolen crude” oil at Saghara creek in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta state.
