Six Persons Rescued in Abuja Building Collapse, two still trapped

A four storey building under construction has collapsed in the early hours of Monday in the Gwarinpa District of Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory.

Six people have been rescued from the rubble and two others are still trapped.

While rescue effort is ongoing, the Director General of the FCT Emergency Management Agency, Mr Abbas Idriss, believes the two persons trapped are alive.

The Acting Coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, Mrs Safiyat Umar, explained that the building was standing on a flood plain which caused the collapse.

She blamed the Federal Housing Authority for giving the approval for the construction of the building.

Meanwhile, the Minister of the FCT, Mr Mohammed Bello, has ordered an investigation into the incident.

This is the second building collapse in Abuja in less than one week.

A building had on August 24 collapsed in Apo Mechanic Village in the same city.
