Sen. Shehu Sani, chairman, Senate Committee on Foreign and Domestic debts, has condemned the abduction of Mr Ibrahim Ismail a lawmaker in Kaduna State House of Assembly.
In a statement he issued to senate correspondents on Wednesday in Abuja, Sani noted that the rising cases of kidnapping, particularly in the North had become a serious national security problem.
He urged the security agencies to confront the challenge.
“It is a menace and a threat to life and liberty of all Nigerians. We must courageously stand collectively and confront the evil of kidnapping.
“There is the urgent need for communities to organise themselves, cooperate with security agencies and protect themselves against this spreading danger.
“We must not succumb to kidnappers nor allow them to dictate our lives.
“If we chose to remain silent and submit to fear of kidnappers, we encourage them the more,” he said.
The senator, who described the abduction of the Kaduna state lawmaker as evil, called for his unconditional release.
He also solicited the assistance of the public to free Ismail.
