Senate accuses Buhari of Seeking to be a Dictator with Emergency Powers

The Nigerian Senate has rejected the proposed bill by President Muhammadu Buhari seeking to secure emergency powers aimed at addressing the nation’s economic crisis.

The Senators who yesterday rejected the proposed bill said President Buhari was seeking to transform himself into a tyrant and that the bill would turn Nigeria into a dictatorship.

Reports indicate that the bill titled “Emergency Economy Stabilisation Bill 2016”, will be sent to the National Assembly by the president upon resumption after the Eid el Kabir holidays. Judging from the countenance of the Senators, the proposed emergency powers being sought by Buhari through the bill,  may be thrown out, with many of the Senators saying the bill  was “dead on arrival”.

The Senators opined that the bill was a subtle way of avoiding counterpart funding by the Buhari administration, and if the bill is passed as proposed, the president will gradually transform himself into a dictator.

The Senators further opined that President Buhari has continued to trample on the the legislature with powers he has, and if given more powers, he would reduce the National Assembly to a rubber stamp.
