Police launched an investigation after a man died while trying to land a stolen plane on a street, according to police in Canada.
Peterborough police said that the plane crashed around 1:20 a.m. on Friday, on Lansdowne Street near High Street.
Police believe that the pilot of the plane, a 21-year-old man who was declared dead at the scene, stole the Piper PA-38-112 Tomahawk from Donald Peck of Newmarket.
Peck told investigators that he did not know his plane was stolen, and he never met the man who died in the crash.
Police refused to say from which airport the plane was stolen, and only said that the airport had no workers on duty during the night.
Codie Coulter, who was at the scene when the plane landed on the road, said that the pilot crashed into several street lights and traffic lights.
There is a 24 hour Shoppers Drug Mart several feet away from the crash site.
