Unknown gunmen were attacked the Borobara community in Tai local government area of Rivers State over the weekend.
According to an Army statement, the incident occurred over the weekend and 2 people were reportedly killed.
The statement signed by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 2 Brigade, Port Harcourt, Captain Eli Lazarus, said the gunmen stormed the community at about 9am on Saturday, blocked a section of the East-West Road and shot sporadically leading to the death of 2 persons.
Lazarus stated that troops from the 2 Brigade, Nigerian Army succeeded in reopening the East-West Road for traffic after the soldiers engaged the gunmen in a gun battle.
Most of the gunmen were said to have escaped with gunshot wounds.
According to Lazarus, an AK 47 rifle, an FN rifle, a G3 rifle and 3 Dane guns, 2 AK 47 magazines, an FN magazine, a G3 magazine, a saw and 180 rounds of assorted ammunition were recovered from the gunmen.
