Rio 2016 has had a lot of moments, there were three proposals, a couple of broken limbs, world records broken, records made, legends born, crimes lied about and so much more.
It was truly a spectacle and as the Olympic flame was extinguished in Rio people could look back at a truly great Olympic games.
Brazil marked the occasion with a joyful closing ceremony as the Olympics was made all the more remarkable as it defied predictions and pulled off a scaled-back Olympics amid economic and political turmoil.
Beyond Ryan Lochte’s lie and disgraceful actions there were no incidents of crime that was reported.
Carlos Nuzman, president of the Olympic Organizing Committee, said during the ceremony:
“We did it. We made it. It was seven years of a lot of struggle and work, but it was worth it. Every minute. Organizing the Games in Rio was a challenge. A successful challenge.”
Nigeria were only able to win one medal which was in the football tournament where they won the bronze medal after winning Honduras 3-2 in the third place match.
And while there were few medals for Nigeria, the athletes who went have to be commended for their conduct.
