NABTEB releases May/June 2016 examination results

The National Business and Technical Examination Board (NABTEB) on Thursday released the May/June 2016 examination results, in which it declared that of the 69,472 candidates that enrolled for the examination nationwide 38,280 recorded five credit passes, including English and mathematics.

Disclosing this in a briefing with journalists in Benin, Edo State, on the release of the results, the Prof. (Mrs.) Ifeoma Isuigo-Abanihe, NABTEB Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, said the exercise was carried out in 1,530 centres nationwide.

Of 69, 472 candidates, 38,280, representing 55.93 per cent, got five credit passes in English language and mathematics, while 54,485 earned five credits and above with or without English language and mathematics, representing 79.61 per cent of those examined.

Prof. Isuigo-Abanihe pointed out that out of the total number that sat for the examination, 2,273 candidates, resenting 3.32 per cent were involved in examination malpractices.

The board is still in the process of verifying the scripts of the candidates involved in examination malpractices, and appropriate sanctions would be meted out to those found wanting.

NABTEB, she said, was established to fill the vacuum in the technology acquisition and development in the country.

She called for the implementation of the new basic curriculum for the institution, just as she noted that there has been some improvement in the performance of candidates in the examination this year, as 88.37 percent passed English language compared to 87.6 percent in 2015.
