Nigeria U-23 captain John Obi Mikel said all the team’s effort will now be geared towards beating Honduras to win the soccer event bronze medal on Saturday in Belo Horizonte.
Mikel who was speaking after the hard fought semi-final match against Germany, said their target was to win the gold, but the Germans proved to be the better side.
“I wanted to win the gold medal , but the fact that we did not play well today . The Germans played well,” the Chelsea midfielder said at the press conference on Wednesday.
“We are professionals, we can now claim third place and this is what we get . We want to give a medal to Nigeria. “
Also speaking defender William Troost-Ekong, said they will give everything to get all the honours in the third place match.
“We have picked ourselves up again and will fight to bring home bronze on Saturday.”
