Chelsea star, Mikel Obi and other members of the Olympics football team have reportedly stopped Coach, Samson Siasia from quitting after their victory over Sweden, Sunday night.
According to AfricanFootball.com, a top source in the team said, “Siasia wanted to quit his post after the win over Sweden, but the players led by Mikel begged him to rescind his decision.”
“The coach complained that he has been badly treated by the authorities, he has not been paid for five months and his team has not received the necessary support to succeed.”
The site said Siasia had shunned the calls of sports minister, Solomon Dalung and directly called the Nigerian vice-president Yemi Osinbajo to complain about his team’s plight when they were stranded in Atlanta.
The team takes on Colombia in the final group game on Wednesday in Sao Paulo, after defeating Sweden to qualify for the semi-finals with a game to spare.
This is one discouragement the coaches get which makes coaching business in Nigeria difficult.
