Jigawa | Communities decries state of Federal roads, says its causing accidents


Following the incessant occurrence of motor accidents which consume hundreds of lives on Kunya – Kanya Babba – Babura – Babban Mutum – Niger Republic Federal Highway, the communities along the road have called on the federal government to reconstruct the road to put an end to he unnecessary loss of lives.

The call was made by a group, Community Civil Societies Organisation in a letter sent to the senator representing Jigawa northwest and the federal minister for Works, requesting for the inclusion of the road reconstruction project in 2017 budget.


The letter, which was written and signed by CCSO including Babura Patriotic Movement (BAPM), Babura Youth Development Initiative (BYDI) and Jigawa State Project Monitoring Partnership (PMP) lamented the deplorable condition of the road which makes it a death trap to motorists.

They expressed their concern on how lives and properties have been lost on a daily basis for over a decade as a result of auto crash caused by the bad condition of the road, describing the situation as very unfortunate.

The letter stated that, the road was constructed as far back as 43 years ago, precisely in 1973 and since then, there has been no major renovation carried out with the exception of minor ones by Federal Road Maintenance Agency.
