Rights group, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), has condemned President Muhammadu Buhari for his lack of political will to go after the various armed Fulani marauders unleashing bloody violence on different communities in Southern Nigeria.
The group threatened to compile evidence of crime against humanity against the president and drag him before the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague for conspiracy in the mass slaughters that had happened in Nigeria.
The group made the disclosure in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by its National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko.
It advocated the creation of an armed vigilante group similar to the Civilian-JTF in the South-east and other places where armed Fulani herdsmen have continued to commit mass killings of villagers.
The rights group also condemned governors and political leaders from the South-east for failing to collectively protest against the incessant killings of Igbo by armed Fulani herdsmen and the conspiratorial silence and inactions of both the military and the Directorate of State Security Services.
According to him, “Evidence abounds to demonstrate the unambiguous lack of political will on the part of President Muhammadu Buhari to go after the various armed Fulani marauders unleashing bloody violence on different communities in Southern Nigeria the latest of which was in Enugu State.
“That the South-East governors have betrayed their people by allowing the Fulani herdsmen to keep killing their people without putting pressures on President Muhammadu Buhari to take measures to deploy soldiers to protect their people is tantamount to sabotage. The ball is now in the courts of the State Houses of Assemblies to pass legislation to bring into life a well armed and motivated community rapid response squads composed of trained youths drawn from the respective communities.”
