Ekiti State | Court rejects Governor Fayose’s bid to stop probe

An Ekiti state High Court on Thursday rejected an ex parte order sought by the Ayo Fayose administration to restrain the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from investigating the finances of the state.

The motion to stop the anti-graft agency from investigating the accounts of the state government was filed by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Owoseni Ajayi.

The Attorney General also requested that the court stops the arrest of the Commissioner for Finance, Accountant General and the managers of the affected banks.

The EFCC had frozen the governor’s accounts with Zenith Bank and some of his associates after allegedly tracing N4.7bn from the Office of the National Security Adviser under Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.) to them and those of two sons of a former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro.

Justice Cornelius Akintayo ordered the applicant to put the defendants in the case on notice to prepare for defence.

The judge rather ruled  that all the defendants in the case should be put on notice to prepare for their defence at the court and consequently adjourned the suit to August 23.

He also ordered all parties in the suit to appear before him when the Motion on Notice would be heard.
