Budget Padding: EFCC says it has received additional documents on scandal


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has received additional documents and evidence against former House Committee chairman on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibrin, over alleged N418 million alleged contract fraud.

While submitting the documents at the EFCC office in Abuja, the petitioner, who is the coordinator of the anti-corruption unit of the National Youth Council, Barr. Ifeanyi Okonkwo said he was at the EFCC office on the invitation of the commission to adopt his petition and he decided to add more documents to the one already submitted.

Barr. Okonkwo explained that the additional information would not only aid the work of the EFCC, but would also give the world the idea of what the budgeting system had been in a long time now.

While giving a glimpse into some of the items in his documents, the petitioner, who explained that the federal commissioner of the National Commission for Refuges, Migrants and Internally Displaced Person is joined in the petition as his commission awarded contracts for suppy of 70 pieces of Bajaj Tricycles at an inflated price of N49 million; and 13 no of Golf cars at the sum of N48, 750, 000. 00 to companies linked to Hon Jibrin.

From the above prizes, the breakdown of the figure shows that a prize of a unit of golf car was awarded at N3, 750, 000.00 and N700, 000.00 was awarded for a unit of tricycle as at September, 2014 when the contract was awarded.
