Barcelona Goalkeeper, Marc-Andre ter Stegen ruled out of Super Cup with knee injury

Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen has injured his left knee and will miss the Spanish Super Cup first leg in Sevilla, the club announced on Thursday.

Ter Stegen, 24, has been linked with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City and he has faced competition under Luis Enrique this preseason from Claudio Bravo and Jordi Masip.

The statement said: “Marc Andre Ter Stegen sprained a ligament in his left knee during the Thursday morning training session following the 3-2 defeat of Sampdoria.
“This means that he will be unable to play in the Spanish Super Cup first leg in Seville this coming Sunday. The German goalkeeper’s availability beyond that will depend on how his injury progresses.”
The Germany international made seven La Liga appearances last season.

The club did not specify how long they anticipated Ter Stegen’s recovery would take.
