#Arepo | Nigerian Ground Forces Penetrate Ogun Creeks

Six days after the Nigerian military intensified its fight against militants and pipeline vandals within Arepo and Ikorodu, the ground forces yesterday successfully penetrated the Ishawo creeks, destroying several camps.

The Ishawo creek has been identified as hideout for suspected militants and kidnappers, who have been terrorising Lagos and Ogun states through the waterways.

It was gathered that the ground forces, comprising the Nigerian Army (NA) and Nigerian Navy (NN), were able to access the Ishawo mangrove for the first time yesterday afternoon, following the sustained air surveillance provided by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).

According to a military source, who hinted on the progress, about 40 militants’ camps were located and destroyed inside the Ishawo creeks.

He added that the forces were advancing further into the mangrove with the hope of ensuring that the fleeing militants have no safe haven.

According to him, no bodies have been seen so far, neither have the foot soldiers sighted any human element.
“We are destroying the militants’ camps. We are setting them ablaze and moving farther inside the mangrove to ensure that new camps are not being built. At Ishawo, we saw and destroyed about 40 camps. So far, we haven’t seen any body and no human being insight either,” he said.
