A man has killed himself and his toddler son after he brutally stabbed his ex-girlfriend.
Dailystar reports that Marco Velocci, 28, and his three-year-old son Alex James died in a crash with an articulated truck near Oola, Co Limerick, yesterday morning.
Before the accident, the 28-year-old had snatched the little boy and sped off in his black Audio estate after plunging a knife into his estranged partner, mother-of-two Jodie Power at her Oola home.
The 26-year-old sustained several stab wounds during the violent assault at the bungalow at around 8am yesterday.
Several witnesses saw him swerve then plough his black Audi estate into the lorry which was driving on the opposite side of the road, according to a source. Meanwhile, medics treated Jodie's stab wounds as the bodies of Alex and her “childhood sweetheart” were discovered at the smash scene.
Alex's body was found on the road near the front wheel of the car, while his father was discovered inside the vehicle.
The pair were pronounced dead at the scene - just three kilometres away on the N24 — the main Limerick-to-Tipperary road.
Cops placed a blanket over the youngster's body as he lay lifeless on the road.
Post mortems are set to get underway after the bodies were taken to University Hospital Limerick in coffins.
The driver of the truck, whose vehicle ended up in a field, was treated for shock but otherwise unharmed.
Investigators probing the deaths confirmed they are treating them as a suspected murder-suicide.
They said: “Officially we are looking at a stabbing incident at a house and a fatal road traffic collision, but we’re also probing a possible murder-suicide.”
Last night Jodie was recovering in hospital surrounded by her family and friends, including parents Elizabeth and Perry. The local described Jodie as a “lovely lady, a great mother and a great neighbour”.
